Abstract

Social media has emerged as one of the most influential communication tools of the modern era, reshaping human thoughts, emotions, and social behaviors. While it facilitates rapid exchange of information, global connectivity, and freedom of expression, it has also contributed to a range of ethical challenges, including abusive language, hate speech, misinformation, vulgarity, cyberbullying, digital addiction, and the erosion of real human relationships. In this context, the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) provides a comprehensive and practical moral framework that can guide individuals and societies in navigating the ethical crisis generated by uncontrolled online engagement.

This study critically examines the negative effects of social media and highlights the ethical principles of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)—including gentleness in speech, modesty, honesty, trustworthiness, time management, patience, and benevolence—as the foundational parameters for the refinement of digital behavior. The findings indicate that if users adopt the Prophetic ethical model in their communication, content sharing, and expression of disagreement, social media can evolve into a constructive and reformative medium rather than a source of division and moral decay. Furthermore, the research reveals that moral training is indispensable in the digital age, and that the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) can serve as an ideal guiding framework for establishing a value-based online culture.

The study recommends active collaboration between educational institutions, parents, scholars, policymakers, and media platforms to develop ethical awareness programs and integrate the Prophetic moral principles into digital literacy. Such an approach can transform social media into a powerful platform for social reform, communal harmony, and intellectual growth, rather than an instrument of misinformation, hostility, and cultural disruption.
