In the Prophetic era (ﷺ), women played a significant role in economic, social, and educational development.

Abstract

This paper takes a closer look at how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ empowered women, especially in the fields of education and economic life, showing that their active participation in society is not a modern idea but one deeply rooted in Islamic tradition. Through the lives of remarkable women like Hazrat Khadijah (RA), a respected entrepreneur and key supporter of the Prophet ﷺ, and Hazrat Aisha (RA), a renowned scholar and teacher, we see how women were uplifted as thinkers, leaders, and contributors to the growth of the Muslim community. The study also highlights other inspiring Sahabiyat, such as Umm Salamah (RA), known for her wisdom and political insight during critical moments of Islamic history, and Asma bint Abu Bakr (RA), who courageously supported the Prophet’s ﷺ migration and later became an example of strength and resilience. The objective is to explore how the Prophet’s ﷺ actions and teachings laid a practical, faith-based foundation for women’s empowerment. Using a qualitative approach rooted in Islamic texts and historical analysis, the paper draws connections between the values upheld by the Prophet ﷺ and today’s need to educate and empower women. The findings show that the early Muslim community, under the Prophet’s ﷺ guidance, honored women’s knowledge, leadership, and economic independence—challenging both pre-Islamic customs and many modern misconceptions. Today, reviving this Prophetic model is essential for nurturing balanced, compassionate societies where women are not just included but respected as vital contributors to progress    andchange.
