Abstract

An individual’s reform can have multiple dimensions, such as intellectual reform, psychological reform, moral reform, economic reform, professional or occupational reform, and political reform. Each of these dimensions requires a distinct reform agenda, and every aspect possesses its own unique significance and nature. Therefore, each must be discussed through an appropriate method of discourse. Reform, thus, is a broad term whose scope must be defined before initiating discussion so that it may be determined in which particular area a person requires improvement, and the research and analysis may be undertaken specifically within that field. Hence, while defining the limits of this dissertation, it will be confined to the individual’s moral reform, and an attempt will be made to clarify the various aspects in which a person needs improvement. The individual is the basic unit of society, and the reform and training of this unit is a long, multidimensional, and challenging process one that not everyone is capable of handling with ease. Individual reform holds an indispensable place in both personal and collective life. This process resembles the construction of a building, whether single-storeyed or multi-storeyed. Just as a building requires all essential materials, which are then skillfully combined and arranged according to a predetermined plan by masons and laborers brick by brick the structure becomes visible, taking proper shape day by day until it finally stands completed its colors and finishing reflecting the owner’s refined taste and leaving onlookers amazed. The case of individual reform is exactly the same.
