Abstract

Before the blessed advent of the Final Prophet ﷺ, humanity had sunk into moral decline after abandoning the ethical teachings brought by the earlier prophets. Allah Almighty sent Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and through him perfected noble character, and the Qur’an itself bears testimony to his exalted moral excellence. The Prophet ﷺ also stated that the purpose of his mission was the completion of noble morals. Morality relates to one’s manner of living and conduct with others, and prior to his arrival, all of humanity was engulfed in ethical degeneration. By adhering to the moral principles and guidance bestowed by the Prophet ﷺ, the Arabs rose to become leaders of the world. Among his most prominent moral teachings are truthfulness, trust and honesty, patience and gratitude, forgiveness, and absolute justice for all members of society without discrimination. Even before prophethood, the Prophet ﷺ was renowned as *al-Ṣādiq* and *al-Amīn*. Although these ethical principles existed in the teachings of earlier prophets, the Prophet ﷺ presented them in their most complete and practical form. The present research will highlight the moral principles and directives drawn from the life of the Prophet ﷺ as a remedy for the decline and downfall of the Muslim Ummah. It will particularly discuss justice, truthfulness, trustworthiness, benevolence, and self-respect. Today, the Muslim Ummah can rise from its decline and regain honor by adhering to the moral principles granted by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—especially the principles of justice, truthfulness, and trustworthiness.
