Abstract

In Islam, women's right to inheritance is a divine command, yet in Pakistani society, it remains one of the most frequently violated principles, cutting across class, education, and religiosity. Many women are emotionally coerced into surrendering their rightful shares to male relatives, often with the silent approval of family members, contradicting both Qur’anic injunctions and Pakistani civil law. This article examines the issue through the lens of the Seerah and Islamic jurisprudence, highlighting that even the donor of wealth is not permitted to give more than one-third of their estate, underscoring the sacredness of heirs’ rights. The practice of denying women their inheritance undermines the concept of divine justice that Islam upholds. The study calls upon scholars, teachers, and community leaders to educate both men and women on the equitable nature of Islamic inheritance laws. It urges women to claim their rights not just for personal benefit, but to ensure financial security for their children. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ laid the foundation of a just society, and honoring women’s inheritance rights is essential to realizing that vision.
