Social justice in Islam is a foundational concept deeply rooted in the Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), forming a unique and comprehensive system that ensures both individual purification and collective welfare. Through the establishment of the State of Madinah, the Prophet (ﷺ) practically demonstrated a model welfare state grounded in justice, equality, mutual support and fraternity. The Islamic framework emphasizes equitable access to resources, economic fairness and equality before the law, inclusive participation, respect for diversity and the protection of fundamental human rights, thereby fostering a society where every individual can realize their full spiritual, social and economic potential. The Prophet’s (ﷺ) approach encompassed a holistic strategy integrating moral, legal and economic reforms to uplift marginalized groups and establish an atmosphere of universal brotherhood. Despite the enduring relevance and universality of these principles, contemporary Muslim societies often struggle to uphold social justice due to factors such as the unequal application of laws, socio-political instability, economic disparities and deviation from core Islamic ethical standards. This article critically analysis the judicial and social dimensions of the Prophet’s (ﷺ) life, highlighting His pioneering legislative contribution, impartial judiciary, economic policies and practical measures for establishing peace and societal harmony. The findings underscore the imperative to revive, reinterpret and implement Islamic principles of social justice in modern contexts to address contemporary socio-economic challenges, reduce inequalities, empower vulnerable communities and promote sustainable development and universal peace.
